Where i get "material" to take license plate pictures in Estonia?

Here i would like to give you short information about how vehicles from different countries and continents get to and from Estonia as i've understood.

There are three basic kinds of sources i get material to take pictures.

1. Transit through Estonia

2. Tourism. Basically buses and autocaravans

3. Diplomatic representation

1. Estonia is relatively small country (45000 sq/km) in northern Europe. Population of Estonia is 1,4 million inhabitants. It has land border with 2 neighbour countries - Latvia and Russia. Visa is required to visit Russia. From 1st of May 2004 Estonia is a part of European Union. It's geographic location has always been interesting by means of transit from western Europe to Russia or from southern Europe to Nordic countries. Transit politics has also been quite liberal in Estonia at least from 1991. Also- roads of Estonia are in better condition compared to some eastern Europe countries and it is quite secure to travel here- on the roads of Estonia. My opinion is that these things make Estonia quite desireable country to transport different goods.

Also, quite many regular ferry connections available from and to Estonia.

Regular passenger connections from ports of Tallinn, Paldiski and Muuga to Helsinki (FIN), Stockholm(S), Kapellskar(S), Mariehamn(ALA) and Rostock(D)

Regular cargo connections available from ports of Paldiski and Muuga to Finland (Hanko,Hamina,Turku), Sweden (Kapellskar,Stockholm), Germany (Hamburg,Bramerhaven,Cuxhaven,Lübeck), Netherlands (Rotterdam,Antwerp), UK (Harwich,Felixtowe,Tilbury) and Latvia (Riga)

Of course when i talk about transit i mean mostly license plate pictures of trucks. If you have noticed there are quite big percentage of my pictures from other countries that are on trucks. To give you an idea what i'm talking about is that there are basically 4 bigger roads that pass Estonia. See map below:

This map is taken from www.regio.ee and it belongs to AS Regio

Roads number 1 and 4 make Estonian part of road which is called Via Baltica. As name says it is the road through all three Baltic States. At road no 4 quite many foreign plates can be seen, specially in spring and summertime. Road no 1 is mostly where trucks can be seen throughout the year. Estonian part of Via Baltica starts from Ikla which is near Latvian border and ends with checkpoint in Narva- town in eastern Estonia.

Road number 2 is also an important for me because it connects two biggest Estonian towns Tallinn (capital city) and Tartu. Road number 2 ends in Luhamaa which is checkpoint to Russia.

2. Tourism to Estonia has been growing drastically in last years. Sadly, tourism session lasts only from April-May to September. I think mainly because of weather conditions here. Average +20 degrees Celsius in summer and -15 to -25 in wintertime. I still hope to see some ski tourists vehicles here in wintertime. We have - i can say - world famous cross country skiing center in Otepää. Usually autumn and winter are very poor seasons here to get good license plate pictures.

In summertime many caravans with foreign plates can be seen in Tallinn harbour which has 4 terminals, also harbour in Maardu and nearby road no 4. Many tourists also visit island of Saaremaa - because of it's fresh air and kozy SPA's. In summertime many foreign plates can be seen in Pärnu because of its logistical location and in Tartu. Tartu is definitely a town where people want to see peace, happiness and one of oldest universities in Europe (A.D. 1632).

3. As it is very rare to see plates from exotic countries in Northern Europe it is good to have as many diplomatic representatives here as possible. As practice shows it might be the only source to see plates from some specially exotic countries. In Estonia there are not much diplomatic representatives from countries from i haven't seen any plates.

I know certainly that China, New Zealand, Azerbaijan and soon also Georgia are present here.
